Leonardo DaVinci wrote in his notebooks: "Iron rusts from disuse; stagnant water loses its purity and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind." Acknowledging the truth of DaVinci's statement, Christendom's Chester Belloc Debate Society provides an environment where vigorous intellectual debate sharpens students' knowledge of both topics and how to express them. The society provides students with an opportunity to learn to express themselves with the vigor of a rushing torrent or the precision of a sharpened blade. Then by proposing controversial and thought provoking resolutions for debate, the Society creates a forum where discussion and debate enrich both the student orators and the college community which hears them.
